Real Indonesia Recognised at Social Impact Festival!

Recently, Real Indonesia attended Impact Seed’s third annual pitch night, an event as part of the Social Impact Festival. It was a fantastic night, full of great pitches and worthy causes.

But it was an extra special night for Real Indonesia, as we were lucky enough to be awarded our first ever third-party funding!

A one-thousand-dollar grant, from Beyond Bank Australia, was presented to Founder Fiona Bettesworth in recognition of her participation in the social business incubator program ImpactSpark.

Impact Seed are a Perth-based social impact investment adviser whose mission is to capacity build on both supply and demand sides of the impact investment market in Western Australia. Since they founded in 2015 they’ve been committed to proving why the ‘business for good’ model works in bridging investment and philanthropy.

Impact Seed work to create co-investment opportunities and deal flow in WA ventures focused on social innovation. Including the WA based incubator and accelerator program, ImpactSpark, which provides participants with an opportunity to learn valuable skills in startup development and education. The program runs over 4 months and includes 10 three-hour workshops, as well as ongoing mentorship designed to help founders successfully grow their startup.

Real Indonesia’s founder, Fiona was selected as part of the 2018 cohort, and participated from March 2018 she outlines her experiences below;

"Being a part of the first-ever ImpactSpark program was a very valuable experience. All of the topics we covered focused on building our businesses, and had very relevant, practical applications. The mentors were experts in their fields, who budding entrepreneurs would usually never have the opportunity to speak with and learn from, but they were all very generous with their time and advice.

In my opinion, one of the best things about the program was that it created a safe space to talk about your social businesses. There can be a lot of noise and pressure within the ‘start-up world’ focused around growth and growth hacking, with the aim to exit with a lot of money. It was nice to be in a room with people who were passionate about doing good and making their venture sustainable, so they can have the most positive impact."

In selecting the recipient of the award, Beyond Bank representative Georgie Nicholas said together with Impact Seed, they considered each business within the ImpactSpark cohort carefully.

We looked at their performance during the course, as well as their business validation and social impact. We also considered their progress as a business and evidence of the incorporation of their learning from the Impact Spark program.”  She said.

We’re so grateful to Impact Seed and Beyond Bank, for believing in our mission, and supporting Real Indonesia along our journey! What a way to celebrate our successful recent pilot tours in East Java!
