We specialise in offering travel experiences to destinations in Indonesia, delivered by our local partners.

What payment system does Real Indonesia use?
Real Indonesia uses Stripe as our electronic payment system. Stripe is an international online payment system that focuses on providing the technical, fraud prevention, and banking infrastructure required to operate online payment systems.

I want to go on a travel experience on different dates to the dates that are advertised, can you arrange this for me?

Yes, please contact us on hello@realindonesiatravel.com and let us know which travel experience you would like to go on, when, and how many people you would like to book for. We’ll do our very best to arrange it for you, but the dates will be subject to the availability of our local partners and the host communities (if applicable).

I’m travelling solo, can I join a travel experience?

Yes, we gladly welcome solo travellers. However, if your travel experience includes accommodation, you will need to pay a single subsidy, which is the extra cost to have a private room, this is an option when booking online.

Can I book a travel experience as a private trip, just for my family and/or friends?

Yes, please contact us on hello@realindonesiatravel.com and let us know which travel experience you would like to go on, when, and how many people you would like to book for and that you would like it to be a private experience. In most cases this will be possible, however depending on the number of people and the type of travel experience, you may not be able to – for example they palace can’t put on dinner for just two people (on our An Exclusive Dining and Cultural Experience at the Palace in Ubud experience). There may be an extra fee involved in making experiences exclusive.

What does the Physical Activity Rating mean?

Each travel experience has a physical activity rating to help travellers determine if they are physically fit enough to participate in the experience.

1-star physical activity rating = suitable for almost all travellers (please note that Indonesia does not have disability facilities)

2-star physical activity rating = suitable for almost anyone with a reasonable level of fitness, walking is involved

3-star physical activity rating = suitable for travellers with a moderate level of fitness, expect semi-strenuous walking

4-star physical activity rating = suitable for travellers with a moderate to high level of fitness, expect strenuous walking

5-star physical activity rating =  a high level of fitness is required to participate in this travel experience

Please contact us for more information about a specific travel experiences physical demands.

What does the Sustainability Rating mean?

Each travel experience has a sustainability rating, which has been chosen by Real Indonesia in consultation with our relevant local partner. These ratings are to help sustainability conscious travellers select their travel experience/s. These ratings take into consideration the impact of a travel experience on the local environment and culture. While it is impossible for us to assess every aspect of this impact, we aim to provide accurate recommendations. All Real Indonesia travel experiences aim to support local economies by recommending guests stay at locally owned and run accommodation and dine at locally owned and run restaurants.

What sort of accommodation can I expect on a travel experience?

Unless stated otherwise, generally our accommodation will be standard, tourist-class hotels or guesthouses (private rooms). At a minimum accommodation will have the following facilities, unless otherwise listed in the travel experience description: air-con, private bathroom with hot water and Western toilet. There may be the option to upgrade your accommodation, if this option is available it will be listed as an optional add-on at the time of booking.

What sort of transport can I expect on a travel experience?

We primarily use private, air-conditioned transport (such as a car or mini-bus, depending on your group size). Local transport will be occasionally used when it adds to the experience, such as an optional horse ride at the top of a volcano.

How many people will be on my travel experience?

We specialise in small group tours, to provide an authentic experience. Therefore, generally there will be 4 to 14 people on your travel experience. However, this depends on the experience, as some experiences require a higher number, for example the Village Inspired Adventure in Bali requires a higher minimum and has a higher maximum of people as 20-30 local villagers are involved in delivering this experience. Specific details on the group numbers is listed in the travel experience description.

Do the tour guides speak English?

Yes, of course. However, being able to use basic Indonesian words and phrases will open endless possibility of communication with local people and will enhance your travel experience. We strongly encourage you to learn some Indonesian before starting on your travel experience. Read our blog post on Indonesian Language Tips to Enrich Your Travel Experience.

Do I need travel insurance to go on a travel experience?

Yes, travel insurance is compulsory for all travellers joining a travel experience. We highly recommend that you purchase travel insurance at the time of booking. You must provide proof of your travel insurance prior to your travel experience or you will not be able to join and your deposit will be forfeited.

What level of travel insurance do you recommend I take out?

Your travel insurance should be ‘comprehensive’. It needs to cover medical expenses including medical evacuation, personal liability and accidental death – but the level of cover is at your discretion. We encourage you to be covered for cancellation, that way if you need to cancel your trip with us due to unforeseeable events outside your control (such as sudden illness or volcanic ash) that you will be able to claim any payments made to us on your travel insurance.

Do I need to pay the cost of the travel experience upfront when I book?

No, unless your departure date is less than 30 days away. You are required to pay a non-refundable deposit of $150 per person per travel experience for your booking to be confirmed. For bookings under the value of $150, full payment is required to secure your place. If your booking is made within 30 days of the departure date then the full amount is payable at the time of booking. Read our Booking Terms & Conditions for full details.

I need to cancel my travel experience; how can I do that and how much will I be charged?

Confirmation of all cancellations must be received in writing to hello@realindonesiatravel.com. The following cancellation charges will apply from the date the written cancellation is received:

  • More than 30 days prior to departure: loss of deposit ($150 or total cost of 1-day travel experiences);
  • Between 30 and 7 days prior to departure: we will retain the deposit or 50% of the total booking cost; whichever is greater;
